As part of our education we arrange for the children to have a fantastic opportunity to go on the radio, the children loved this day and was broadcast across Essex speaking about outdoor education and how everyone should grab some wellies and get outside!

Billericay Town Clerk

The Treehouse Club risers went to visit Deborah Tonkiss, the Town Clerk,as part of their research on ‘people around our community’.   Deborah took time, out of her busy schedule, to answer questions that the children had prepared.

Beach School/ Beach Trip

3a

Outdoor learning produces life-long learners. Beach Schools are a natural progression from Forest School and compliment that work, taking it from the woodland to the coast. This kind of holistic education develops the whole child and helps to prepare the new generation for the challenges of the future and produces the environmentalists of tomorrow.

Barleylands

4a

Our children love a trip to Barleylands where they can have a tractor ride, go on the land train, feed the animals and enjoy the indoor play equipment. There is so much for the children to do that we spend the whole day there having fun and we take a picnic with us as well.

Forest skills

5a

With unlimited space to experience the woodlands we build dens, make rope swings and even use phonics, literacy and numeracy outdoors.

Redwings Horse Sanctuary

1-11

Based in Harlow, Redwings horse sanctuary cares for horses whether they are homeless, sick, injured or have been mis-treated. We visited with the children to explore the sanctuary, learn more about the horses and for the children to interact with the smaller ponies.

Essex Regiment Museum

2-12

We love to go across to the Regiment Museum in Chelmsford as the museum is a great place for the children to interact and learn about history.

Hollytree House Museum

5ab

The children love this museum where experience the miniature world of the Hollytree's dolls house and find out about the origin of the famous nursery rhyme Twinkle Twinkle Little Star – which was written in Colchester!

The Natural History Museum

4-12

A fascinating chance to get closer to nature. Find out about wildlife habitats, biodiversity and climate change.

Saint Nicholas Church
5-12

The Very Kind rector Diane Ricketts showed us around the church. We were very lucky for our children to try on the different robes she wears for the different occasions They were taught about the different items used in the church and had fun doing rubbings of the different priests but the best part for the children is when they get to play the church organ and bells!

Wat Tyler Park

6-12

Wat Tyler Park is a regular visiting spot for us as it is our sister nature reserve. They have a wide variety of things to do from a large park to their children’s play area.

On one of our visits we were very fortunate to have a cottage tour and a talk explaining its history and how the Council bought the two cottages originally for just 50p! We had great fun stopping and making bees wax candles whilst we were on our tour.

The staff at Wat Tyler were great with the children, extremely friendly and keen to teach them the history of the park. After this we also had a tour of the flower garden and were shown some beautiful birds.

Billericay Library

7-2

We regularly take the children to the main library in the high street, encouraging the children to read and have an active interest in books. We like to join in with ‘story time’ and the children love the interactive stories and activities that the library host.

West Thorndon Country Park

8-12

The ‘Gruffalo’ nature trail at West Thorndon Country Park is an excellent activity for the children.

Chalkwell Beach

9-12

This is a lovely beach were the children can play, build sand castles, hunt for crabs, go ‘netting’ and have a wonderful picnic. We take all of our outside play equipment so that the children can play sports and games whilst we are there. ‘Who can build the biggest sand castle’ is one of the children’s favourite games!

Southend Museum

10-12

A trip to Southend Museum is a regular favourite for the children. Learning about the local history of the area, there are also numerous activities for the children to take part in, including arts and crafts and learning games. A trip to the museum is not complete without going to the Planetarium to learn about the sky at night, stars and space.
