With the Tokyo Olympics well under way we’ve got Olympic fever here at The Treehouse Club! It’s no secret that we love keeping our little ones busy with all kinds of indoor and outdoor activities, which is why we’ve been thinking about some fun things we can put on our adventure radar when it comes to kids getting active, starting with these ideas based on the word OLYMPICS.
O is for Obstacle Course: Make the most of the summer holidays and get busy turning your backyards and gardens into obstacle courses! Happy Toddler Playtime has 20 awesome ideas to get you started with. It goes without saying that physical activities are essential for everyone, so join in too, parents!
L is for Leaves: We love getting into the great outdoors and counting leaves, looking at leaves and bringing leaves home to create some rather lovely leafy art projects like these ones by The Idea Room. Leaves are also a great opportunity for talking about life cycles, nature and the bugs, birds and animals that live amongst their green camouflage.
Y is for Yarn: We adore yarn painting here at The Treehouse Club and our little ones love to whip up yarn masterpieces like these ones by The Artful Parent. Painting is also the perfect way for mini Picassos to express emotion, use their senses, explore colour and textures and practice their fine motor skills.
M is for Music: Whether you use pots and pans, homemade instruments, real instruments or something like this awesome music wall by MOE Ministry of Outdoor Education, music is not only a fun activity for kids of all ages, but music ignites all areas of child development. Fun and learning in one noisy, loud hit!
P is for Puzzles: Puzzles get busy minds firing on all cylinders and make for the perfect rainy day or isolation activity with tots while they learn to work through problems and reach a solution as they fit the pieces together. They’ll also be honing their fine motor and hand-eye coordination skills at the same time, so take a look at the handcrafted puzzles over at MOE for traditional and unique puzzle ideas to stockpile at home.
I is for Indoor Adventures: Hide and seek, scavenger hunts, home cinemas, living room camp sites or good old fashioned board games – there are soooo many cool things to do at home that the weather can’t ruin!
C is for Craft, craft and more craft: Our friends over at London for Kidz have all kinds of craft ideas from toilet roll unicorns to DIY slime, rock painting ideas to educational craft activities. Craft encourages children to play and experiment while enhancing hand eye co-ordination skills, helping them to build on their dexterity and to learn about colours, shapes and textures.
S is for Singing: Singing is not only a whole lot of fun, but did you know it also helps children strengthen their lips and tongues to help with clear speaking skills? It also expands their vocabulary, teaches them about creative language and rhyme AND can really boost their cognitive development too. Mics at the ready, people!
Time to go for Gold now and kickstart your own summer filled with Olympic activities! And don’t forget, if it’s a holistic, forest school kind of curriculum you are keen for your own little Olympians to try when it comes to a preschool or nursery in Essex, then The Treehouse Club definitely needs to be on your radar. Give us a call today on 01277 402018 to find out more or to arrange a show around at one of our wonderful, friendly settings, all found in the beautiful Essex countryside.
